Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.

            On this third day ____day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open court before the court of Common Pleas in and for the county of West Chester aforesaid now sitting Benjamin Acker a resident of the Town of Mount Pleasant in the said county aged sixty nine years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
            That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein state: that is to say, he enlisted in the Army of the United States on or about the first of March in the year 1780 for the term of one year in the quarter master’s department under the command of Colonel Hews of the line of the State of New York (the declarant does not now recollect the name of his captain) that he was stationed during said year at Verplank’s Point in the said County of WestChester and served under the command of said Hews in the Quartermaster’s department, and at the expiration of said term of one year was honorably discharged at said Verplank’s Point.
            And the Declarant further states that on or about the first of March in the year 1781, immediately upon the expiration of said last mentioned term, he again enlisted in the Army of the United States for the term of one year in the quartermaster’s department under the command of Colonel Hews of the line of the State of New York (the declarant does not now recollect the name of his captain) that he was stationed at Verplank’s Point in the said County of WestChester during the said year, and at the expiration thereof was then and there discharged from the said service.
            1st And the Declarant saith that he was born in the manor of Philips now town of Mount Pleasant in the said County of WestChester on the twelfth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty three.
            2nd Has no record of his age.
            3rd That he lived in the Manor of Philips now town of Mount Pleasant in the County of West Chester aforesaid; that he has always lived there and now lives there.
            4th That he entered the service as herein before set forth.
            5th That the only regular officers who were with the troops where he served whose names he now recollects were Captain Sumner and Lieutenant Nestles; and that the general circumstances of his service are as herein before stated.—
            6th That he does not recollect that he ever received a written discharge from the service.
            That he has no documentary evidence of his service; that the names of the persons to whom he is known in his present neighborhood, and who can testify as to his character for veracity and their belief of his services as a soldier of the revolution are William Lambert Esquire and Benjamin Brown, residents of the town of Mount Pleasant aforesaid; that there is no clergyman in his vicinity with whom he is acquainted.
            He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state. (Signed) Benjamin B. Acker.

Letter written in reply for information, dated October 1, 1924.
            I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim, S.11936, it appears that Benjamin Acker, who also signed Benjamin B. Acker, was born August 12, 1763 at Philips Manor, (later called Mt. Pleasant), New York.
            While residing at said Philips Manor, he enlisted March 2, 1780 and served as a private two years in the Quartermasters Department, under Colonel Hughes, and served as ferryman at the ferry at Verplanck’s Point, New York.
            He was allowed pension on his application executed December 3, 1832, while a resident of Mt. Pleasant, Westchester County, New York.
            There is no data on file relative to his family.
