Pension Application for Solomon Acker, or Ackert, or Ackart

            On this seventh day of August 1832 personally appeared in open court, before the Judges Troy Major’s Court now sitting, Solomon Acker, a resident of Schaghticoke in the County of Rensselaer and State of New York, aged seventy nine years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on his oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7, 1832.
            That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers, and served as herein stated.
            That in the month of May or June 1775, he joined a company of soldiers that volunteered their services for the defence of our Country.  The said company was formed at the town of Schaghticoke then in the County of Albany, but now Rensselaer County—that one Hicks acted as Captain & one VanDuzer as Lieutenant * this deponent as ensign of said company, that said officers were then actually commission said company was attached to a regiment of Militia commanded by Lieutenant Col. Peter Yates—that this deponent, was promised and ensign commission whenever a full company was formed but never received a commission—that during the year 1775 he this deponent said Hicks and VanDuzer formed a company of 51 soldier on by direction of said Col. Yates said company & this deponent were employed in watching and pursuing the hostile Indians and Tories at Schaghticoke & Stillwater until the commencement of the year 1776 when this deponent was ordered by said Col. Yates to Albany—that this deponent then joined a company commanded by Capt. Johnson & continued to serve in said last mentioned company at Albany, Schaghticoke, Johnstown & other places until June 1776 when deponent joined a company of militia commanded by Captain Walter Groesbeck in Schaghticoke in a regiment of militia commanded by Col. John Knickerbocker and continued in that company until & after Burgoyne’s surrender  in 1777—that in July 1777 this deponent was with Major Gen’l VanVeghten at Schaghticoke when he was shot by the Indians & deponent fired upon & killed on of said Indians & immediately raised a guard & warned the inhabitants & assisted the in removing to Albany, the he continued in service in the last mentioned company until the year 1778, then joined the company commanded by Capt. Jacob Yates & was in service with a scouting party at Fort Edward the same year—that he this deponent was in service of the United States in the militia during the war of the revolution from the said month of May or June 1775 until the close of the war, that a day or two previous to the surrender of Burgoyne, Col. John Knickerbocker was ordered with his regiment by General Gates to guard the passes on the east side of the Hudson river & this deponent with the company to which he was attached was stationed at & assisted in guarding said passes that he this deponent was born in the county of Dutchess in 1753 according to a record of his age, removed to Schaghticoke when he was 15 years of age & resided at Schaghticoke when called into service, & has resided there the principal part of this time ever since and now resides there.—That he is known to all the aged inhabitants of said town of Schaghticoke all of whom can testify to his character for truth and veracity & to their belief of his services as a soldier of the revolution.  Has no documentary evidence of his services.
            He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or an annuity, except the present, and he declares t that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any State.  (Signed with his mark)  Solomon Acker
