            Samuel Akins—On this ninth day of February 1821 personally appeared before the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of the county aforesaid in open court being a court of record for the said county having unlimited Jurisdiction in point of amount and keeping a record of its proceedings—aged seventy seven years resident in Sharon in said county of Schoharie who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary war on the Continental Establishment as follows that he enlisted in the continental service in the year 1777 for thirteen months in the Regiment commanded by Colonel VanSchaick and in the company commanded by Capt. David Van Ness and at the expiration of the time for which he enlisted he was honorably discharge that he continued to serve in the New York line in the said corps until February 1779 when he was discharged from the said service in Claverack in the State of New York—That he was in the battle of Saratoga at the taking of Burgoyne and that he has no other evidence in his power, but what is contained in this declaration.
            And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of the Act of Congress entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and navel [sic] service of the United States in the Revolutionary War” passed on the 18th day of March 1818 not that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts of debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule annexed and by me subscribed.—Schedule- Real Property I have none—Personal property—one bed and bedding worth $6.00 six cups and saucers $0.50—six earthen plates $0.37½--Two bowls $.18¾--one shovel and tongs $1.25—six knives and forks $1.00 one pail $0.18¾ -- six spoons $0.50, a few fragments of kitchen furniture now worth more than $5.  That I am in debt for the house I now live in for rent about twenty dollars, that I am by trade carpenter and that in consequence of my advanced age, I can do but little labour that I have nothing other in my family but my wife named Hannah sixty six years of age who is also feeble and not able to contribute to my support—That my property in all amounts to $14.56 ¼.  (Signed with his mark)  Samuel Aikins
