State of New York County of Sullivan SS.
            On this Tenth day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open court before Samuel Smith, William Gillespie and Thomas Crary Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for said County of Sullivan now sitting Robert Aldrich a resident of the Town of Neversink in the said County of Sullivan & said state of New York aged eighty years on the third day of April 1772 who first being duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
            That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated to wit & first he states that he was born at the town of Smithfield &b State of Rhode Island on the third day of April in the year one thousand seven hundred & fifty two and that he has no record of his age the family record being in Rhode Island.
            That when he entered into the service he resided in the town of Marlborough in Ulster County (now PlatteKill) in said County…that after the revolutionary war he resided in said town of Marlborough about sixteen years & then removed to the town of Neversink in Sullivan County where he has resided every since. In the year one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven about harvest time he was drafted in the militia of this state under Captain Jacob Conklin Lieutenant Halamus Vandemark and Robert Arving Ensign—that his Colonel was Snyder, his Lieut Colonel was Johannes Hornbeck and cannot recollect his major—that he served at various times and places during about the period of two years, and that the following are the particulars as far as he can recollect—that he served in the first place at Fort Montgomery about the period of a fortnight—that he was again drafted and served during four months at Fort Montgomery and worked hard at drawing stones, cutting sod, and facines—that he was again drafted for three months, but Fort Montgomery was taken and he did not go. That his next draft was Mamakating in Sullivan County (then Ulster) and served there during about one month, that next or immediately before the last, was drafted and went to Ramapo in this state (now Rockland County) and was then about six or eight weeks guarding some tories that had been taken by us—after being there about the above time, was taken sick and was taken home be a friend who came after him—that he next went to Fishkill and served about a month, being drafted.
            That during said two years was at Fort Montgomery after it was taken, and marched in various parts—was at West Point and during all his services endured a great deal of hardship and sickness—That he does not recollect much about having been with any of the ”Standing forces.” But remembers that he served in company with a regiment in which one Dubois was Major, and another of the same name was Captain.
            That he never received any written discharge or discharges from the service that he remembers, and has no documentary evidence and knows of no persons whose testimony he can procure to testify to his service except those accompanying this application.
            He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and he claims that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state and further deposes that there is no clergyman residing in his neighborhood or town. (Signed) Robert Aldrich

Letter in folder dated April 13, 1937, written in response to a request for information.
            Reference is made to your letter relative to soldiers of the Revolutionary War.
            Revolutionary War data furnished by this office are obtained from claims made to the United States for pension and bounty land based upon military service of soldiers in that war.
            A careful search of the records fails to show such a claim on file on account of the services of Gilburth Aldrich, all spellings of the names searched.
            The data contained herein were obtained from the papers on file in the revolutionary War claim for pension R.82, based upon the military service of Robert Aldrich in that war.
            Robert Aldrich was born April 3, 1752, in Smithfield Rhode Island. The names of his parents are not stated.
            Robert Aldrich applied for pension October 10, 1832, at which time he was a resident of Neversink, Sullivan County, New York. He stated that while a resident of Marlboro, what part which was later called Plattekill, Ulster County, New York, he enlisted about harvest time in 1777, served at various times over one year and six months in all, in the New York troops as private under the following officers: Captains Jacob Conklin, Jacobus Rosa, Bardowine Tarpening, and Cross and Colonels Hathorn and Snyder.
            His claim was not allowed as he failed to furnish proof of his service as required by the pension law.
            After the Revolutionary War he lived in Marlboro, New York, about sixteen years and then moved to Neversink, New York.
            Soldier was dead in 1847, date and place of his death not stated.
            In 1847 soldier’s son, John Aldrich, was residing in Bloomingburg, New York, his age not given. In 1853 soldier’s son, Peter R. Aldrich, was living in Sullivan County, New York, his post office address was Grahamsville, New York, his age not stated. The name of soldier’s wife is not stated, and there are not further family data.
