Pension Application for John Anderson

Declaration: In order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress of the 7th July 1838 entitled “an act granting help pay and pensions to certain widow.”

County of Tompkins SS.
            On the sixth day of May 1843 personally appeared before the subscriber a Judge of the court in and for said County, Lydia Anderson of the Town of Enfield in said County & State aged seventy nine years who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows.
            And also a further Declaration
            In order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress of the 3d March 1843 granting pensions for one year to certain widows who have received pensions under the act of July 7, 1838.
            That she is the widow of John Anderson who was a soldier in the war of the Revolution that he served in the New York Line in the War of the Revolution, probably under col. VanSchaick, or Col. organ, that he served to the end of the revolutionary war, rec’d an honorable discharge which entitled him to bounty land, which was appropriated to him in the town of Hector in the County & State aforesaid, that the said discharge is lost or out of the reach or knowledge of this deponent, she further declares that she was married to the said John Anderson in November 23d day 1786 seventeen hundred and eighty six, that her husband, the aforesaid, John Anderson died in May 1807, eighteen hundred & seven; that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the first of January, seventeen hundred ninety four, viz, at the at the time Above stated; that she has not nor never had a family record of her marriage & that she is still the widow of the aforesaid John Anderson.  (Signed with her mark)  Lydia Anderson
            Sworn & subscribed before me this sixth day of May 1843 H. S. Wallridge Judge of Tompkins County Courts and of the degree of Counsellor of the Supreme Court.

[This widow filed deposition after deposition over the years, but never got the pension she applied for and neither did her children who also applied.]
