On this 25th day of April 1818 before me Stephen Phelps a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County aforesaid personally appears Archibald Armstrong aged 50 years resident in the town of Gorham in said County who being by me first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provisions made by the Late act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval of the United States in the Revolutionary War that he the said Archibald Armstrong entered in the company commanded by Captain Hick in the 1st New York Regiment commanded by Col. VanSchaick in the month of January 1779. That he continued to serve in the said corps until the month of June 1783 when he was honorably discharged from service at Newburg in the State of New York that he was at the taking of Lord Cornwallis and that he is in reduced circumstances and stands in need of the assistance of his country for support and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services.             On this twenty first day of August 1820 personally appeared in open Court, (being a Court of Common Pleas in and for said county, and constituted a Court of Record by proceeding according to the court of the Common Law, with a jurisdiction unlimited in point of amount, and keeping a record of its proceedings, and recognized as such Court by the laws and judicial decisions of said State, Archibald Armstrong aged fifty five years, resident of the town of Gorham in said county, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath declare, that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows:
            For the term of three years and four months in continuation in the company of Captain Hix a part of the time, and a part of the time in Captain Parsons Company in the 1st New York Regiment commanded by Colonel VanSchaick from which he was discharged in June 1783.
            And that he made application for a pension on the twenty fifth day of April 1818 and that he received a pension certificate No. 3,312. And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the eighteenth day of march, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen, and that I have not since that time, by sale, or in any manner, disposed of my property, or any part thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an Act of Congress, entitled “An Act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War,” passed on the 18th day of march 1818 and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts, or debts due to me, nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed, and by me subscribed, viz.

            And I do further swear and declare that I am by occupation a farmer and that by age and bodily infirmities I am able to perform but little labour and that my family consists of my wife Ruth aged 40 years, my son Stephen aged 15 years, my daughter Eliza aged 11 years and my son Cameron aged 8 years very weakly. March 7, 1853, Widow Sabra Armstrong, aged 79, resident of Pittsfield in Washtwnau County State of Michigan applied for pension. In her declaration she stated her husband was a drum major in the war but after was a private. She states she was married to Archibald Armstrong at Pittsfield in Washtenaw County the 29th of April 1839. Archibald died the 29th of January 1847.
