            On this 26th day of October AD 1839 personally appeared Christian Arnott in open court in the Court of Common Pleas for said County of Huron now sitting in Norwalk in and for said county in said State the said Christian Arnott a resident in Milan in said County aged eighty five years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of congress passed June 7, 1832. That then residing in Bethlehem, County of Albany, State of New York being about sixteen years of age he was drafted & enrolled in the Militia of said State into the company commanded by a Captain Slingerland in the regiment commanded by Col. Vanderbergh, General TenBroeck was the Brigadier General and served as herein stated. That he served at Schoharie about four months. The second time he served and was drafted in the Militia into a company commanded by Capt. [?] Hogan. That he don’t remember the name of the Ensign of the Regiment he was in a Brigade commanded by Major General Schuyler that he served at Ticonderoga. That he also went to & served at St. John & there met General Montgomery & was taken sick and returned to Ticonderoga when Gen. Montgomery took the command that he was detailed from Genl Montgomery’s troops to escort the general to his home, that he served also at Fort Edward General St. Clair was in possession and commanded said Fort. That he was one of the Pioneers to obstruct General Burgoyne’s march form the Fort to Saratoga by falling Timber and tearing away Bridges on Burgoyne’s route to Albany and being in ill health on his arrival at Albany, General Schuyler gave him a Furlough & he the declarant went home he was absent from home as much as six months. Before this he served under General Gates who had succeeded Genl. Schuyler & he served at Saratoga when Burgoyne was captured but at that time he had the small pox very severely. That he also served at Fort Miller, Fort Hunter, Fort George, Stillwater, that his said services were from a circuiticous rout for six or seven years in the whole about fifty miles south, one hundred miles and about seventy miles north of Albany. These services were all previous to the general peace of 1783. That he was engaged in no battles. That by reason of old age & consequent loss of memory he cannot swear positively as to the precise length of his service—but according to the best of his recollection, he served not less than three years during said war. For which he claims a pension.
            That he was born in Bethlehem, Albany County, State of New York on the 25th December AD 1754. [In a later deposition he said he was born AD 1757.]
            That he has no record of his age. That he was living at said Bethlehem when he was called into said service.
            That since said Revolutionary war he has lived in Rochester, Monroe County, State of New York and in Lorain County State of Ohio and now lives in Milan Huron County State of Ohio. The names of the officers he was acquainted with during his said services besides those he has before mentioned are Captain Herkiman, General Peter Gansevort & Colonel VanWie. That he received a discharge but he can’t recollect by whom it was given but it has been lost a long time since. That he always served as a private in said war.
            That having come to this county only about nine months ago, he is acquainted with no clergyman but is acquainted with Francis Arnott & John G. Arnott who can testify to his character for truth and veracity and their belief of his services as a soldier of the revolution. That he knows of no living witness or any documentary evidence respecting his said services.
            That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.
            That the reason he has not heretofore applied for a pension is that until lately he hoped to be able to live without it, but at present is poor, not having but a little property. (Signed with his mark) Christian Arnott
