Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed 7th June 1832.

Be it remembered that on the 7th day of July 1832 before James C. Walworth Esqr a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County aforesaid Court being a court of Record Personally appeared Elisha Babcock of Edmeston in the said County aged 70 years who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress, passed June 7, 1832. That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated. That he lived in Stephentown in the State of New York in the year 1782 and that on the first of April 1782 he was classed off or detached in the State Troops of New York and marched to Albany in said State and mustered in Captain Peter Tierce’s Company of Infantry & from thence marched to Schenectady & Johnstown on the Mohawk River thence to Fort Plain where he joined Colonel Willet’s Regiment for the term of time for which he entered the service was nine months—and that he was on Fatigue and on Scout and in garrison at the different Forts and Posts on the Mohawk river during the whole of said time and that he was discharged on the 31st day of December 1782 at Fort Plain on the Mohawk river in the State of New York. Elijah VanScouten 1st Major Andrew Fink 2nd Major & Dow A. Fonda Adjutant belonged to his regiment that he was born in Stowington in the State of Connecticut that the record of his age is there. Since the Revolutionary war he has lived in Stephentown, Burlington, Casenovia & now in Edmeston in the State of New York. That he did not receive a written discharge but was verbally discharged. That he has no documentary evidence to prove his service & he knows of no other person who knows of his service except Jonathan Babcock and that he relinquishes all other claims whatever except the present to a pension or annuity and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.
