Pension Application for Mathias Hoos

            On this third day of September one thousand eight hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open court before the Judges of the Court of Common Please in and for the County of Greene now sitting being a court of record Mathias Hoos being a resident of the town of Coxsackie in the County of Greene and State of New York aged between sixty eight and sixty nine years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
            That he was born in the town of Coxsackie in the County of Green aforesaid (formerly County of Albany) on the 15th day of August 1764, the he now resides there and has always resided there, except three or four years when a boy, when he resided in the townof Kinderhook in the County of Columbia & state aforesaid.  That he has a record of his age.  That he was enrolled in the militia of the State of New York towards the latter part of the revolutionary war in Col. Anthony VanBergen’s Regiment in Coxsackie.  That shortly after his enrollment he did military duty at a place called Patamacossac in the town of Catskill in the county of Green for nine months—That he was commanded by Philip Conine a Captain Lieutenant in the New York line of the Continental Army who is dead—That he services were rendered as a private soldier and as a substitute for a class who were bound to furnish one man—that he does not now recollect the names of the persons for whom he did the aforesaid services, and therefore cannot state whether they are now dead or alive.  That the services were rendered the ssame year in which Lord Cornwallis surrendered to the American Forces, for he recollects distinctly that while he was on duty at Passamaquassoc he hear of the surrender—That he believes that one Peter VanBergen of Catskill at that time acted as a Lieutenant—That he does not recollect the name of any other officer nor does he remember tha there was any other commissioned officers there—That he recollects that his brother Nicholas Hoos did duty as a private soldier at the same time—he does not remember any other soldier who is now alive—
            He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.  (Signed with his mark)  Mathias Hoos

            Nicholas Hoos of the town of Coxsackie in the Bounty of Greene aforesaid being duly sworn saith that Mathias Hoos in the annexed declaration mentioned in his brother—that towards the latter part of the Revolutionary War the said Matthias did Military Service for the United States under Philip Canine a Lieutenant in the New York Line of the continental Army at a station called Passamascassac in the town of Catskill in the said County of Greene—That this deponent also did service at the same place.  That when he was there his brother aforesaid was there & had been there as he then and entered & believes between two & three months; and that he remained there from that time doing duty between six and seven months when this deponent was there—That he then understood & believed & has always since understood &b believed that he did service as a private soldier and as a substitute for nine months.  (Signed with his mark) Nicholas Hoos
