Pension Application for Henry Huber

In the matter
of this application of Elizabeth Huber for a pension as the widow of Henry
Huber late of the Town of Little Falls deceased.
Herkimer County
SS George Rosencrantz of the town of Little Falls, County of Herkimer and State
of New York Being duly sworn saith that he is seventy years of age & upwards,
and that his father was the Revd Abraham Rosencrantz the minister of the Reformed
protestant Dutch church in German Flatts in the now county of Herkimer from the
??? of deponent previous to the Revolutionary War & during that was & long
afterwards until his death—That a short time since Peter Huber of the County
of Jefferson a son of old Captain Henry Huber called upon this deponent to search
the records kept by this deponents father of marriages where the ceremony was
performed by him & alledged that his mother stated that she was married to
said Henry Huber by deponents father. This deponent saith he searched the
only book of records in deponents possession of his fathers records of marriages & could
not find the marriage of said Henry Huber and in fact no record of marriages
going so far back in date as the widow of said Henry alledges they were married
and deponent said that said Peter also searched said book of records & which
book deponent states is the only book of records of baptisms & marriages
or either extant and that when his father died about the year 1796 all his books & papers
extant were left in the care & possession of this deponent. This
deponent saith that on Saturday the second of December instant he was working
over some papers which he supposed ??? chest of drawers and that [this document

George Rosencrants
of the town of Little Falls in said county being duly sworn saith that the paper
hereto annexed is the half sheet or leaf of a book mentioned & referred
to in deponants former deposition made by him in this matter before George
Petrie Esquire Justice of the Peace containing the record of the marriage
of said Henry Huber to the aforesaid Elisabeth his present widow.
This deponent
saith that he writing on the annexed half sheet or leaf is all in the proper
handwriting of deponents deceased father who at the periods stated thereon was
the minister of the Reformed Protestant Dutch church in German Flatts in the
said county & previous & subsequent thereto and the entries thereon are
on the same form & manner as the entries & manner as the entries made
by him in the book of records of marriages in deponents possession which is also
mentioned & described in one of deponents former depositions in this
matter—
This deponent
saith h believes the entries of the marriage on this annexed half sheet or leaf
to be ??? & ??? & that those marriages took place at the times thereon
stated—This deponent said he was not looking for any papers or record of
this kind when he found this paper but came across it accidentally which while
looking over some old papers of this deponent & further saith not.

day of April 1837 personally appeared before John Macomber one of the Judges
of the Court of Common Pleas in and for said County, Elizabeth Huber, a resident
of LeRay in said County, aged eighty five years, who, being first duly sworn
according to law, doth on her oath, make the following declaration in order to
obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed July 4th
1836. That she is the widow of Henry Huber, who was a Lieutenant in the
Militia and served the United States as such during the Revolutionary War at
Herkimer, New York and in that vicinity at various periods during the years 1776, ’77, ’78 & ’79
in all not less than one year (she believes much more) that he was taken prisoner
in the Battle at Oriskany and was gone from home about five months in the summer & fall
of 1777.—that the commissions and other papers hereto attached were
in the possession of her said husband up to the time of his death.
She further
declares that she was married to the said Henry Humber in the month of March
1774; that her husband, the aforesaid Henry Huber died on the 30 day of September
1828; and that she has remained a widow ever since that period, as will more
fully appear by reference to the proof accompanying this.—

In the matter
of the application of Elisabeth Huber: Widow of Capt. Henry Huber for a pension.
John Huber
of the Town of Manheim in said County being duly sworn deposeth and said that
he is ninety two years of age that he this deponent is a brother of the said
Henry Huber deceased who resided in the now Town of Little Falls in said County
where he died, that said Henry is the eldest of their family and this deponents
the next eldest. That his said brother Henry was married to Elisabeth his & present
widow previous to the Revolutionary War but whither is was one or two years
previous to the war this deponent cannot state this deponent remembers that they
were married by the Revd Abrm Rosencrantz but he did not see them marry—further
says he did no go with them because a child of his sister, then the wife of John
Miller was to be buryed on that day, further says the said Rosencrantz was the
minister of the reformed protestant Dutch Church in German Flatts in said
County. This deponent further says that on that day when said ??? was buried
the said Henry Huber was married to the said Elisabeth his present widow as the
then was informed and understood by all the family and that said Henry and said
Elisabeth from that time cohabited and lived together as and were called husband
and wife until the death of the said Henry and were always believed to have been
married by said Rosencrantz. Deponent further says that he believed
that all those previous who accompanied them on the occasion of their being
married dear death except the said Elizabeth who deponent is informed and
believes is still living.
This deponant
further says that his said brother Henry was a Captain in the Militia of the
State of New York in said war under the command of General Nicholas Herkimer
and did duty as such as a Militiary Soldier and recollects that the said Henry
whent to the Battle of Oriskanny on the 6th day of August 1777 in the engagement
with the British Army composed of Incendiaries from Canada under the command
of General St. Ledger at which engagement General Herkimer was severely wounded
and soon after died—further says that the said Henry was then and there
taken prisoner as [piece out of paper] deponent always has been Informed and
believes and ??? by the British to Canada and deponent recollects that
he did not return home from said battle till about Newyears day following deponent
further says he recollects that said Henry and his wife Elisabeth had one son
born previous to said battle and within the time he was absent, a prisoner in
Canada, this said wife Elisabeth was delivered of a female child now the wife
of R. Sixbury and that the said Henry and his said wife Elisabeth have had eight
children born after his return from Canada and lived and cohabitated together
till he died—and that the said Elisabeth has not intermarried since
deponent further says that the said Henry has rendered true and faithfull
service to the United States but deponent cannot state the length of time
he served.

Dear Sir:
Reference
is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War record of
Henry Hoover of Herkimer County, New York, whose widow, Elizabeth, received
a pension while living in Leray, Jefferson County, New York.
The data
which follow were obtained from papers on file in claim for pension W.23355,
based upon service of Henry Huber in the War of the Revolution.
The date
and place of birth of Henry Huber and names of his parents are not given. It
was stated that he was the eldest son and that is father lived during the Revolution
on a farm in Herkimer County, New York.
While residing
near Little Falls, Herkimer County, New York, Henry Huber was commissioned
May 18, 1776, first lieutenant in Captain Severinus Casselman’s company,
fourth militia regiment of Tryon County, New York: he was in the battle
of Oriskany, at which time he was a captain, was taken prisoner at that battle,
carried to Canada and held five months; he returned home about New Year’s
Day, and continued to serve at various times as lieutenant and captain until
the close of the war, a part of the time, serviced in Colonel Peter Bellinger’s
regiment.
Henry Huber
married March 27, 1774, Elizabeth Frank; they were married by Reverend Abraham
Rosencrants, pastor of the Reformed [Protestant is crossed out] Dutch Church
in German Flatts, Herkimer County, New York.
The date
and place of birth of Elizabeth Frank and names of her parents are not given.
Henry Huber
died September 30, 1823 in Little Falls, New York.
His widow,
Elizabeth Huber was allowed pension on her application executed April 7, 1837,
at which time she was aged eighty-five years, and a resident of Leray, Jefferson
County, New York.

Huber resided on the north side of the Mohawk river about a mile & a

from the village of Little Falls
from the time of this deponents first knowledge
of him until his death & further this deponent

Village of Little Falls in said county of

duly sworn saith he was forty nine years of
age on the twelfth day of February last past
as he has always been informed & as he verily
believes true and saith he has within the present
week searched the records of the Revd. Abr.
Rosencrantz deceased who was the minister, as
deponent has also always been informed &
verily believes true, of the Reformed Protestant
Dutch Church in the now town of German
Flats in the county of Herkimer previous to &
during & long after the Revolutionary War, and he
there found the record of deponents baptism in which
deponents birth is recorded as being on the 12th
day of February 1788, which date corresponds
with the information deponent has always had
of his age from his parents & others - this deponent
saith he was, as he has at all times been informed
& as he believes true, born in the now town of Little
Falls on the north side of the Mohawk river &
lived there till in the year 1811 when this deponent
having got married & moved to his present residence
where he has remained ever since & still does.
This deponent saith that the said record he
searched is a book of records of baptisms &
marriages of said Revd. Abr. Rosencrantz in
posesion of his son the Hon. George Rosencrantz
of the said town of Little Falls & that this one
book is the only record of such matters extant
& that all the other records of the Revd. Abr. Rosencrantz
of baptisms & marriages administered or

held by him were destroyed or lost in the
Revolutionary War as deponent is informed
& verily believes true and that this information
is obtained from said George Rosencrantz
& others most likely to know the
truth - that said George is a man advanced
in years as deponent believes over seventy
years & his eye sight some impaired so
that he could not make said search with
as much accuracy as deponent. This
deponent saith he searched said record with
care & faithfully to find the record of
the marriage of this deponents father
& mother Henry Huber & Elizabeth
his wife and also for the record of the
baptism of their or some of their oldest
children, that he this deponent cannot
find any record of the marriage of his
said father & mother, that he has found
in the said book of records of the baptisms
that deponents brother Jacobus
was baptized by the Rev. Abr. Rosencrantz
on the sixth day of March 1779 and that
by the same record he was born on
the 14th day of February 1779 and that
Joh: Freidr: Frank & Susanna his wife were
sponsors both of whom are long since dead
& this deponent & saith that his eldest brother
& son of said Henry Huber & Elizabeth, his wife
is Henry and their second child
is Elizabeth still living the wife of Robert
Sixbury - and their third child was the
said Jacobus born the 14th February 1779.
This deponent saith he cannot find any
record of the birth of the said Henry

of said Rosencrantz or of theirs or either of their
of their baptisms, or in the church
records of Fort Plain or Stone Arabia
churches both of which this deponent has
carefully searched to find the
same & the marriage of his said
father & mother. This deponent saith
he has found in the said records of
said Rosencrantz the record of his
sister, Anna, as born the 16th day
of March 1781 & baptized the 1st day of
April 1781 and also the record of
the birth & baptism of his brothers
Adam and David younger than said
Anna all entered in regular order
as well as those of said Jacobus.
This deponent saith there is no
record of marriages by said Rosencrantz
earlier than 9th of September
1781 that deponent could find but that
the record of his baptisms appears
regular from the year 1775 to his
death in 1796. This deponent saith
that his said brother Jacobus died
many years ago & that his said brother
Henry & sister Elizabeth are still
living, that he this deponent is a son
of said Henry Huber & Elizabeth
his wife, that his father is dead &
that his mother is still living, that
deponents father was always called

his infancy heard that he was

Dear Sir:
Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War
record of Henry Hoover of Herkimer County, New York, whose widow,
Elizabeth, recieved a pension while living in LeRay, Jefferson County New
York.
The data which follow were obtained from papers on file in claim for pension
W. 23355, based upon service of Henry Huber in the War of the
Revolution.
The date and place of birth of Henry Huber and names of his parents are not
given. It was stated that he was the eldest son and that his father
lived during the revolution on a farm in Herkimer County, New York.
While residing near Little Falls, Herkimer County, New York, Henry Huber
was
commissioned May 18, 1776, first lieutenant in Captain Severinus
Casselman's company, forth militia regiment of Tryon County, New York; he
was in the battle of Oriskany, at which time he was a captain, was
taken prisoner at that battle, carried to Canada and held five months; he
returned home about New Year's day, and continued to serve at various
times as lietenant and captain unitl the close of the war, a part of the
time, served in Colonel Peter Bellinger's regiment. Henry Huber

Frank; they were married by Reverend Abraham Rosecrantz, pastor ot he
Reformed protestant Dutch Church in German Flatts, Herkimer County, New
York.
The date and place of birth of Elizabeth Frank and names of her parents are
not given.
Henry Huber died September 30, 1823, in Little Falls, New York.
His widow, Elizabeth Huber, was allowed pension on her application executed
April 7, 1837, at which time she was aged eighty five years, and a
resident of LeRay, Jefferson County, New York.
Reference was made to eight children of Henry HUber and wife Elizabeth, the
following are the only names shown in the claim:
Henry born January 15, 1775, in 1837 living in LeRay, New York.
Elizabeth " in the fall, 1777, married Robert Sixbury, she was alive
in 1837.
Jacobus " February 14, 1779, it was stated in 1837, that he had been
dead many years.
Anna " March 16, 1781
Peter " February 12, 1788, married about 1811, in 1837 living in
LeRay, New York

Brothers of Henry Huber were referred to in 1837, as follows--
John Huber, ninety two years of age and living in Manheim, New York; Jacob
Huber, seventy five years old and a resident of Little Falls, New
York, he was the youngest brother. A sister, the wife of John Miller, was
referred to in 1837, her name not stated.
The papers on file in this claim contain no

In order to obtain the date of last payment of pension, name and address
of
person paid, and possibly the date of death of the widow, Elizabeth
Huber, it is suggested that you apply to the Comptroller General, General
Accounting Office, Records Division, this city, and furnish the
