Continental, Private, Capt. Oliver, Hazen’s Regt. On discharge signed by Washington he is listed as a sergeant.

On this twenty third day of August 1820, personally appeared in open court, to wit, in the Court of Common Pleas in and for said County the same being constituted a court of Record by the Constitution and laws of said state Samuel Johnson resident in said County who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows—viz—That in the year 1778 as he believes he enlisted to serve during the War & served in Capt. Oliver Company of Col. Moses Hazen Regiment of Continental Troops until discharged at the end of the war—That in order to obtain a pension for said services he did on the 11th day of April 1818 apply for and subsequently received a certificate that he was placed on the pension list Roll of the New York Agency, the number of which certificate appears to be 5,124.
And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18 day of March 1818, and that I have not since that time by gift, sale, or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled “and act to provide for certain persons engaged in the Land and Naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War” passed on the 18 day of March 1818, and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed and that the said property is not worth more than the sums annexed to the items which compose it respectively Viz--

1 Pot 1.50, 6 plates .56, 2 Kettles 3.75, 1 Sett Cups and Saucers .44, 1 bake kettle (broken) 1.25, 6 knives & forks .87, 1 skillet .38, 1 axe 1.50, 1 old frying pan .50, 1 Hoe .50, 1 Wheel 1.75, 1 Churn .50, 1 Wheel 1.50, 2 Candlesticks .25,1 Barrel 2.00, 1 Table 3.00, 1 milk pail .62, 5 Chairs 2.50, 1 pail .37, 1 Cup of 1 [?] 4/ 2.62, 1 pair Shovel & Tongs 2.25, 2 bowls 2.38, 1 Chest .50, 4 spoons .50, 1 tea pot 1.00, 1 Bible 1.00, 2 tin milk pans .75, 1 sett shoemakers tools 1.50, 1 platter .31, 1 loom & apparatus 13.12. Total $45.67.

That I am indebted to H. Hawkins in the sum of fifty one dollars & eighty three cents—That my family consists of Hepsibak my wife aged sixty eighty years but is unable to support herself—That my occupation is a Shoemaker, but am unable to labor sufficiently to support myself—I live with my wife at the home of my son—Samuel aged twenty three years of age.
