Declaration of a Revolutionary Widow claims a Land Warrant under Act of March
3, 1855.
On this 17th
day of April A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, personally appeared
before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the said county and state aforesaid,
Anna Lather, aged ninety seven years, a resident of the Town of Mohawk, Montgomery
County in the State of New York, who being duly sworn according to law, declares
that she is the widow of Christian Lathers, deceased, who was a private in the
Revolution, that her first husband Christian Lathers did not receive a
pension in his life time for his services now died. In the Revolutionary
that the declarant is now receiving a pension under the Act of 4th July 1836
for $64 per annum for services rendered by her first husband Christian Lathers,
for the time she made her application for a pension she was the widow Lasher,
the widow of Conrad Lasher her second husband which will more fully appear
in her papers on file in the office of the Commissioner of Pensions, that
she received her pension at the agency office at Albany, NY.
She further
states that she was married to the said Christian Lathers in Town of Palatine,
County & state aforesaid on the ________A.D.
17____by one Revd Rosecranby [Rosencrantz] that her name before her said
marriages was ___________and said husband died at ___________on the ___day
of________AD 18___ and that she is now a widow.
She further
states that she & her husband could not write & kept no family record,
that she does not now recollect the time she was married to her first husband
Christian Lather nor the time of his death Jules & Yate’s Espry? Was
her attorney & agency to prove her pension and he procured the proof of marriage & death
which is on file at the office of the Commissioner of Pension on her papers for
a pension & that she was not married before the war closed.
She makes
this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she
may be entitled under the act approved March 3, 1855, and she hereby requests
the commissioner of Pensions to forward her warrant to Abm. A Van Horne Fonda
Montgomery County NY and appoint him my attorney to receive the same for me.

in the State of New York, upon our oaths declare that the foregoing declaration
was signed and acknowledge by Anna Lathers in our presence, and that we believe
from the appearance and statements of the applicant that she is the identical
person she represents herself to be. David Lathers, Martin Vrooman

declaration and affidavit were sworn to and subscribed before me on the day and
year above written; and I certify that I know the affiants to be credible person,
that the claimant is the person she represents herself to be, and that I have

On this 8th
day of September one thousand eight hundred and forty three personally appeared
before the undersigned a judge of the Court of Common Pleas of the said County
of Montgomery, Anna Lasher a resident of the town of Palatine in the County of
Montgomery and State of New York Aged seventy seven years who being first duly
sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order
to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July
4th 1836 and the acts supplementary thereto. That she was married to Christian
Leathers who was private Corporal and Batteauman in the Revolutionary War. That
to the best of her knowledge belief and the evidence she has been able to procure
her husband the said Christian Lathers then a resident of the town of Palatine
(then) county of Tryon and State of New York entered the service of the Untied
States by enlisting into the company of Rangers under the Command of Captain
Christian Getman in August 1776 and served therein until the March following
being a term of seven months or more. That in the year 177 he performed
three several tours in Capt. John Bradbigs Company of Militia in Colonel Jacob
Klock’s Regiment viz at Unadilla at Oriskany and at Saratoga amounting
in all to three months or more. That in the year 1778 he performed a tour
of mine months as a Batteauman in the Company of Captain Samuel Gray. That
in the year 1779, 1780 and 1782 he performed the service set forth by records
found in the Comptroller’s Office and contained in the comptroller’s
certificate herewith accompanying accounting for those months or more. That
she refers to the proof hereto annexed to substantiate her statements and on
which she rests her claim—She further declares that she was married to
the said Christian Leathers on the 29th day of August in the year Seventeen hundred
and eighty two that her husband the aforesaid Christian Leathers died on the
16th day of July Eighteen hundred and thirteen. That she was afterward
married to Courdo [Conrad?] Lasher who died on the 18th day of July 1843 that
is now a widow—(Signed with her mark) Anna Lasher

I so hereby
certify that I am personally acquainted with Anna Lasher the above declarant
that she is a person of credibility and that she is unable to appear in court
by reason of her age and bodily infirmity. Jacob Graff, Judge of the

I Abraham
G. Rosencrantz of the Town of Little Falls being duly sworn deposeth and says
that he is the personal representative and son of George Rosencrantz deceased
who was the son of the Reverend Abraham Rosencrantz decd, who in his lifetime
was the minister of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Herkimer and German
Flatts. That he was always informed and believed and now believes that
his Grandfather as such minister solemnized marriages and kept a record of marriages
which said book of records was after the decease of his said grandfather in the
possession of his father the said George Rosencrantz until his decease. Which
even took place the 21st December 1838. And since the said Book of Records
have been and are now in the possession of this deponent he being the executor
of the said George Rosencrantz Decd. That he has this day examined
the said Book of Records of Marriages and finds and [as written] Entry therein
that seventeen hundred and eight two the twenty eight day of August, Christian
Lethers was married to Anna Even, that the entry of said Marriage is in the
following words and figures.

28th Aug 6 Christian Leder and Anna Even.
Which said
record is that on the twenty eighth day of August one thousand seven hundred
and eighty two Chrisitan Lethers was married to Anna Even.

that I am well acquainted with the above named Abraham G. Rosencrantz and

Soldier married in German Flatts or Palatine NY July or Aug 28, 1782 Anna or
Nancy Even; he died July 16, 1813; she then mar. Conrad Lasher (date not given)
who died at Avoca, Steuben Co., NY July 18, 1843. Soldiers name also
appears as Ledder, Leder, Lather and leathers.
