 Pension Application for Thomas Mosher or Moshure

            On this twenty sixth day of November 1818, before me the subscriber, one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas—county of Schenectady – personally appeared Thomas Mosher aged sixty years, resident formerly in Schenectady, who being by me first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress Entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land & naval services of the United States in the revolutionary war—that he the Thomas Mosher enlisted in Captain Stephen White company  & Col. Willett Regiment in March 1781 and served until January 1782 & afterward belonged and attached to Captain Guy Young’s Company is said Regiment until November then was when he was transferred under the command of Capt. Jellis A. Fonda (1) & by him discharged on the first of January 1783 in the State of New York and on the establishment of the United States.  That he was in the battle of Johnstown (2) and that he is in reduced circumstances—indigent, aged, unable to procure a livelihood, by labor & in need of the assistance of his country for support and that he has no other evidence now in his power said services but are annexed.  (Signed with his mark)  Thomas Mosher

  1. Captain Guy Young in Colonel Marinus Willett's Regiment of New York State Levies retired from the service in November 1782.  Joe Gillett took command of Captain Young’s Company.
  2. The Battle of Johnstown was fought on October 25, 1781.  Captain White was taken prisoner.
