Pension Application for Lewis D. Peek

            On this nineteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open court before the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for said County now sitting Lewis D. Peek a resident of the town Rotterdam in said State & County aged sixty eight years and upwards who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
            He was born in the ten township of Schenectady (now Rotterdam) in the County of Albany now Schenectady in the State of New York on the sixth day of January 1764.
            He has no record of his age.
            When he was called into the service of the United States in the army of the Revolution he was living in said township and since the revolutionary war he has lived in the same place now Rotterdam and he now lives in the town of Rotterdam aforesaid.
            He entered the service of the revolution under the following named officers and served as herein stated.
            In the year 1779 he was enrolled as a private in Captain John VanPatten’s Company of Militia in Colonel Abraham Wemple’s Regiment.  He received the appointment of a Corporal in said Company & served as such until the end of said war.  The names of his other company’s field officers whom he recollects were Tunis Swart Lieutenant, Abraham Swits & Myndert Wemple Majors.
            The claimant served in said company of Captain John VanPatten under an engagement until the end of the said war.
            That beat of his company comprised parts of both towns of Rotterdam and Glenville in said County.  It therefore fell to his lot to mount guard at the fortress of Westina (now Glenville aforesaid).  He was at this fortress on duty when was called out in distant expeditions to other posts in more immediate danger of attack from the enemy.  He mounted guard for the term of three months at Schenectady.
            He was many times on duty as a scout also.  He cannot specify all the tours & excursions in which he engaged—The following are some of the principal ones, viz—
            He marched with a party of Militia as far as Jessup’s Patent or in that neighborhood to intercept the enemy under Sir John Johnson who had returned with his party from burning & devastating the Mohawk settlements & was on his way back to Canada in 1780.  In 1781, he served with the troops that went in pursuit of Walter Butler & his party at West Canada Creek.        
            The whole period for which he did military duty during said war exceeds nine months.
            The following are the names of some of the regular officers whom he knew, or who were with the troops where he served, and such continental and militia regiments or companies with which he served, or as he can recollect, viz: Colonel Willett, Lieutenant Thornton, and all the officers of Wemple’s Regiment aforesaid.
            He never received any written discharge from the service.
            He has no documentary evidence, and knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his service except those whose depositions are hereto annexed.
            The following are the names of person to whom he is known in his present neighborhood, and who can testify as to his character for veracity and their believe of his services as a soldier of the revolution, to wit, James L. Peck & John S. TenEyck.
            He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever, to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.  (Signed) Lewis D. Peck
