Ebenezer Pease

On this 27th day of April 1818 before me the subscriber, one of the assistant
judges of Franklin County Court, personally appearing, Ebenezer Pease, aged
fifty nine years, resident in Georgia in the County and state aforesaid, taking
by me first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following
declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress
entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval
service of the United States in the Revolutionary War. That he the said Ebenezer
Pease the month of May A. D. 1777 enlisted in the Springfield in the State
of Massachusetts. In the Company commanded by Captain Coburn of the Regiment
Commanded By colonel Alden of the Brigade commanded by General Nixon of the
Massachusetts Line of the Army of the United States on the Continental establishment;
that he continued to serve in said company or in the service of the United
States until the month of March or April A. D. 1780, when in Cherry Valley
in the State of New York (can’t read) of the sickness of his family
he was permitted to leave the service by procuring a man to serve in his place
which man did service and the remainder of the time for which he the said
Ebenezer Pease enlisted and at the time of the expiration of the time of his
enlistment he was at a distance as not to procure any discharge. That he was
in at the capture of Burgoyne, and in the battles immediately proceeding and
in the Battle with the Indians at Cherry Valley and that he is reduced circumstances
and stands in need of the assistance of his country for support and that he
has no other income now in his farm of his said surviving.

Franklin County
Supreme Court, July thirteenth, 1820, personally appeared in open court, being
the Supreme Court for the County of Franklin and a court of record for said
county, having the power of office and imprisonment, Ebenezer Pease, aged
71 years, resident in Georgia in said county, who being duly sworn according
to law, doth on his oath, declare that he served in the Revolutionary War,
as follows:
I served three years from the year 1777 to the year 1780 in Captain Coburn’s Company in Col. Alden’s Regiment, Nixon’s Brigade, Massachusetts Line. My original declaration is dated April 27th 1818 and my pension certificate is number 11,333.
And I do solemnly swear, that I was a resident citizen of the United States, on the 18th day of March 1818; and that I have not, since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner, disposed of my property, for any part thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it, as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress, entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States, in the Revolutionary War,” passed on the 18th day of March, 1818; and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities, contracts, or debts, due to me: nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed, and by me subscribed.
40 acres of land in Fairfax for which there is due one hundred dollars being a part of the purchase money for the payment of which sum the land is mortgaged also I am under obligation to give to my son, Abel Pease the title to said land in his paying me twenty four dollars annually during my natural life, he has expended large sums and been at considerable expense in taking care of me and my wife for which he has an additional claim to the land besides what it is above stated income. Five sheep, one three pail kettle, one pail do, one peter kettle, one small broken pot, one pan, hand irons, one spider, two old chairs, one old table, 2 platters, one old pewter platter.
I am by occupation a farmer but by reason of age and debility I am not able to labor, have no family under my care, live with my son in law and owe as much as I have due to me.

Dear
Madam:
Reference is made to your letter relative to Ebenezer Pease, a soldier of
the Revolutionary War and Abel Pease, a solder of the War of 1812.
The data contained herein are obtained from the appeared on file in the Revolutionary War claim for pension, S. 41947, based upon the military service of Ebenezer Pease in that war.
The date and place of birth and the names of the parents of Ebenezer Pease are not shown.
Ebenezer Pease enlisted in May 1777 in Springfield, Massachusetts, served as private in Captain Coburn’s Company, Colonel Alden’s Massachusetts Regiment; was at the capture of Burgoyne, in the battles immediately preceding, and in the battle of Cherry Valley and discharged in March or April 1780.
He was allowed pension on his application executed April 27, 1818 at which time he was aged sixty-nine years and a resident of Georgia, Franklin County, Vermont.
In 1820 soldier was living in Georgia, Vermont, with his son-in-law, his name, age, and the name and age of his wife are not shown. Abel Pease, a son of soldier, was living in 1820, his age not given. The name and age of soldier’s wife are not stated, and there are no further family data.
This is the record of the only Ebenezer Pease of Georgia, Vermont, that is found on the Revolutionary War records of this office.
The War of 1812 records of this office fail to show that pension was ever claimed on account of the services of Abel Pease, all spellings of the surname searched.
