Pension Application for John Phillips

            On this 11th day of September 1832, personally appeared in open court before the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas, in and for said County, now sitting, John Philips a resident of Pamelia in said County, aged 74 years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on his oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7, 1832.
            That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers, and served as herein stated.
            That in the year 1777, enlisted for nine months, in Capt. John Camile’s? Company in the Boat service on Hudson River and was employed during that time transporting stores for the Army, from Albany up to Fort Edward—don’t know who was Colonel, Philip Lansing was in command of all the boats—March 1778 enlisted for nine months under Capt. Simon DeGraff, in Colo.christopher Yates Regt NY State Troops—for nine months & performed the same boating from Albany to Fishkill and different places on that river—was dismissed about Christmas having served nine months—saw Burgoyne when he laid down his arms – was all the time engaged in actual service—I was also in the Battle of Johnstown, turned out a few days—was under Col. Willett—was born in Johnstown, Montgomery in NY in 1758—have no record of age, knows of no witness but John Casler—has no documentation, evidence, never had a discharge in writing—since the rev. War. lived in Johnstown and Pamelia—have lived in Pamela for the last 12 years.  And further, that there is no clergyman residing near him.
            Her hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of the agency of any state.  (Signed) John Phillips.
