Application for Disability, Johannes Schell

            His name appears on a list of applicants for invalid pension returned by theDistrict Court of the District of New York, submitted to the House of Representatives by the Secretary of War on April 25, 1794, and printed in the American State Papers, class 9, page 94.

            Disabilty: Wounded in his left side in an action with the Indians.
            Where disabled: Oriskie
            Residence: Herkimer
            Remarks: No injury, There are no militia rolls in this office.
            Evidence transmitted by the District Court incomplete.  The physicians declare that this wound is not injurious.  No proof of his leaving the service.  The testimony of freeholders do not prove continuance of disability, but that he is able to labor.

Letter dated February 8, 1935, written in reply to an inquiry.
            Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War record of John (Hannes) Schell of Herkimer County, New York.
            In the volume entitled Claims, Class 9 of the American State Papers on page 94, the name of Johannes Schell appears on the list of applicants for invalid pensions, returned by the District Court of New York, to the Secretary of war in 1794, with the following data:
            Johannes Schell, private, Colonel Bellinger’s regiment, wounded in his left side in action with the Indians at Oriskie—Residence—Herkimer.
            Remarks: no injury; the physicians declare that this wound is not injurious; no proof of his leaving the service; the testimony of freeholders do not prove continuance of disability, but that he is able to labor.
            There are no papers on file relative to this pension claim, due to the destruction of such papers when the War Office was burned in 1800.
