Thomas Sarles of the town of Hampton in the County of Washington and State of New York being duly sworn according to law deposeth and make the oath to the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late Act of Congress entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the Land and Naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War”.
That this deponent enlisted at Little Hosick County of Rensselaer and State of New York into a company commanded by Captain Henry Teabout in a Regiment commanded by Colonel Gansevoort in the Spring of the year one thousand and seven hundred and seventy six as he believes for the term of three years—and served as a private soldier in said company for the said term of three years then next enlisting in the New York Line in the War of the Revolution against the common enemy on the Continental Establishment when he was honorably discharged in the State of New Jersey but that the certificate of such discharge is now lost.
That he is now in the sixty fifth year of his age and from his reduced circumstances and condition in life he needs the assistance of his country for support. And that he has no other evidence now in his power of the said service—and that he is now a resident citizen of the United States, and this deponent further saith that he was in the Battle of Fort Stanwix and also in a Battle against the Indians under the command of Genl. Sworn 14th April 1818, before me, Anthony Blanchard, First Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Washington in the State of New York.

On this thirtieth day of August 1820, personally appeared in open Court, being a Court of Common Pleas in and for the said county—a Court of Record, which proceed according to the course of common law, with a jurisdiction unlimited in point of amount, keeping a record of their proceedings, and which have the power of fine and imprisonment, Thomas Sarle, aged sixty eight years, resident in the Town of Hampton, in said county, who being first duly sworn, according to law, doth, on his oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the acts of Congress of the 18th of march, 1818, and the 1st May, 1820:--That he the said Thomas Sarle served in the Revolutionary War, as follows, viz, three years in the company commanded by Captain Henry Tiebout in the regiment commanded Colonel Peter Gansevoort in the line of the state of New York in the Continental establishment; that he continued to serve in said corps, from May one thousand seven hundred and seventy six, until May one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine when he was discharged from the said service, at Head Quarters in the state of New Jersey.
And further, that he made application for a pension in pursuance of the act of Congress of the 18th of March, 1818, the fourteenth day of April 1818 and received a pension certificate, no. 13369, dated at the War Office of the United States, the twelfth day of July 1819 and has received his pension, at the rate of eight dollars per month, from the said fourteenth day of April to the fourth day of March one thousand eight hundred and twenty.
And, in pursuance of the act of the 1st May 1820, I do solemnly swear, that I was a resident citizen of the United States, on the 18th day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen, and that I have not, since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner, disposed of my property, or any part thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress, entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States, in the Revolutionary War,” passed on the 18th day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen; and that I have not, nor has any person, in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts, or debts, due to me; nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed, and by me subscribed.
And I do further swear that I am sixty eight years of age and that I am by profession a farmer, that I am wholly unable to pursue my profession or do any other labor, by reason of the Rheumatism with which I am afflicted, and a broken constitution, that the number, names and ages of my family are as follow viz. Lois my wife aged fifty five years, sickly and infirm, my daughters Lucy aged twenty years and totally unable to contribute anything to her support. Fanny, aged seventeen years, slender and unable to work, Electa aged fourteen years, very small and unable to work, and my son Calvin aged twelve years, unhealthy a great part of the time and unable to work.
